Gators Capture Doubles Title at Dick Vitale Classic

Spencer Liang and Stefani Stojic captured the doubles crown at the 2014 Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic, presented by First Watch Cafe, at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club Tennis Center in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, Sunday evening.
Liang and Stojic turned in a dominant doubles performance to take the title, defeating No. 1 seed Katerina Adomovic and Vladica Babic of Oklahoma State, 8-1. This marks the first collegiate tournament title for both sophomores.
“Spencer and Stefani played one of the best doubles matches of the fall,” said associate head coach Dave Balogh.
No. 89-ranked and No. 1-seeded Belinda Woolcock finished the tournament as first runner-up in the singles event. She competed in the final match, but fell to Adomovic, 6-4, 6-0.
“Oklahoma State just outplayed us in singles,” Balogh added. “But no more than 10 minutes later, we were able to take the doubles match from them. Despite a couple of rain delays, we stuck it out and it was a successful weekend overall.”
