?iva Recek Honored at UF’s Outstanding International Student Awards Ceremony

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- While the accolades on the court keep rolling in for the top volleyball team in the Southeastern Conference, Monday night Florida junior outside hitter éiva Recek, a Kočevje, Slovenia, native, will be honored for her success off the court and in the classroom.
Recek, the 2012 AVCA National Freshman of the Year and a two-time All-American outside hitter for the Gators, will be honored at the University of Florida's Outstanding International Student Awards Ceremony Monday evening at the Reitz Union.
“More often than not, we see a correlation between the work ethic on the court and in the classroom,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “éiva is a perfect example. Her diligence, attention to detail and drive to succeed are all traits we see every day in practice. The fact that she is doing so well academically despite English as her second language speaks volumes of her character.”
The Outstanding International Student Awards Ceremony was initiated to highlight the accomplishments of international students at the University of Florida. The awards are designed to recognize students who not only meet exemplary academic achievement, but also a wide range of accomplishments and contributions.
An event management major in UF's College of Health and Human Performance, Recek has averaged 2.06 kills per set through SEC play, fourth on the Gators squad, with a .295 hitting efficiency to help lead Florida to its 21st SEC Championship. Recek, who boasts a wealth of international experience, most recently with the Slovenian National Team at European Qualifiers for Euro 2015, just posted a career-best .643 hitting efficiency in UF's sweep of Auburn Wednesday.
Recek has now been a part of two SEC Championships and will embark on her third NCAA Tournament run with the Orange and Blue come December.
