GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators sent head coach Will Muschamp and their senior class out in style with a 52-3 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
Six days after it was announced that Muschamp is stepping down at the end of the regular season, Florida responded with a dominant performance against the FCS-division Colonels on Senior Day.
Here is our instant analysis of UF's Senior Day victory over Eastern Kentucky:
THE QUICK SLANT
WHAT IT MEANS: The Gators became bowl eligible with their sixth win. They improved to 6-4 and after their first losing season since 1979 a year ago, the Gators are headed back to a bowl game. Defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will serve as head coach in the bowl game.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: In his final home game as Florida's head coach, Muschamp walked back into the locker room to cheers after Florida snapped a three-game home losing streak. He finishes his UF career with an 18-8 record at The Swamp.
STAGGERING STATISTIC: The Gators passed for 326 yards and outgained EKU in total offense 430-142. Starting quarterback Treon Harris finished 4 of 12 for 162 yards and two touchdowns before leaving with a knee contusion. Meanwhile, Jeff Driskel came in and looked sharp, completing 9 of 11 for 164 yards and three touchdowns.
SUBPLOT: Harris and Driskel's big days added up to big days for receivers Demarcus Robinson and Quinton Dunbar. Robinson finished with four catches, 137 yards and two touchdowns. Dunbar had four catches, 107 yards and two touchdowns.
UP NEXT: The Gators travel to Tallahassee to face No. 3-ranked Florida State in Muschamp's final game. The Gators are the last team to beat the Seminoles and the Gators would like nothing more than to send Muschamp off with another road win against FSU.
