Gators Advance to Finals at Dick Vitale Classic

Belinda Woolcock advanced to the singles final while Spencer Liang and Stefani Stojic will play for the doubles title at the 2014 Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic, presented by First Watch Cafe, at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club Tennis Center in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
“It was another tough day, but we're getting it done,” said associate head coach Dave Balogh. “We again had several close sets in singles and doubles, down a few set points, but we're finding ways to win.”
Woolcock defeated North Florida's Taylor Hollander, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals and moved past Maria Alvarez of Oklahoma State, 6-1, 7-6(7) to reach the final. Liang topped No. 101 Marta Morga, the No. 2 seed from Memphis, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Her semifinal match against Katerina Adomovic of Oklahoma State has been postponed due to rain and will resume tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
“Both Belinda and Spencer are competing so hard, playing with great emotion and intensity at the end of these sets. Really proud of them,” Balogh added.
Liang and Stojic defeated Mariella Calderon and Quetzali Vazquez of North Florida, 8-7(1), in the semifinals to advance to the doubles final match. The No.2-seeded duo will face the No. 1 seed, Oklahoma State's Katerina Adomovic and Vladica Babic.
