
Defending NCAA champion Florida gymnasts top 2015 GymInfo Preseason Poll

GAINESVILLE, Florida – The University of Florida gymnastics opens the 2015 season in the same position it finished the last two seasons – No. 1. The GymInfo Preseason poll was revealed this afternoon and this is the second consecutive year the Gator gymnasts open at No. 1.

Florida has appeared among the preseason top four teams each of the last nine years (2007: 3rd; 2008: 2nd; 2009: 3rd; 2010: 4th; 2011: 3rd; 2012: 3rd, 2013: 3rd; 2014: 1st).
In 2014, Florida was the first team which topped the GymInfo preseason poll to win the NCAA title since Georgia in 2009. The Gators shared the 2014 NCAA title with Oklahoma as each team posted a NCAA Super Six record total of 198.175. It is the only tie for a national team title in any sport since the NCAA began sponsoring women's championship events in the 1981-82 season.
The four leading the preseason poll also finished among the top four in the 2014 NCAA Super Six team final. Florida shared the 2014 NCAA title with Oklahoma and the Sooners are No. 2 on the preseason poll. Rounding out the top five are No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Alabama and No. 5 UCLA.
Florida faces seven opponents in the poll, including five in the preseason top seven. Three of Florida's home dates feature an opponent among the preseason top 25 – No. 7 Georgia on Jan. 30, No. 16 Auburn on Jan. 16 and No. 22 Kentucky for the Feb. 27 Gators Link to Pink meet.
In 2014, the Gator gymnastics team claimed their second consecutive NCAA Championship and also won the NCAA Regional team title. Four Gator All-Americans return this season, including two who have claimed the NCAA all-around title – junior Bridget Sloan (2013) and senior Kytra Hunter (2012) Also returning are All-Americans Claire Boyce and Bridgette Caquatto.
