Tuesday, December 9, 2014 | Football
Four Florida football players were named to the 2014 All-Southeastern Conference Coaches team, announced Tuesday by the league office. Junior Dante Fowler, Jr., and sophomore Vernon Hargreaves III were selected to the first team defense, while senior center Max Garcia and junior linebacker Antonio Morrison were second team selections.
Fowler, Hargreaves and Morrison led a Gator defense that ranks ninth in the country, allowing 311.0 yards per game. UF gave up just 4.45 yards per play in the regular season, fifth best in the nation and tops in the SEC. Morrison is the team's leading tackler, racking up 98 tackles in 11 games. Fowler had a team-leading 12.0 tackles-for-loss and 15 quarterback hurries, while Hargreaves led the SEC with 13 pass breakups on the year.
Garcia was a rock on the offensive line all season. In his first-ever season at the center position, he started every game and graded out at 97 percent on 757 total plays. He had over 35 knockdowns and was a two-time SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Next up for the Gators is a trip to the 2015 Birmingham Bowl on January 3 in Birmingham, Ala. Tickets are $50 apiece and can be ordered online here.
