GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A perfect 10.0 balance beam mark and using the nation's top total of the weekend for her fourth consecutive all-around win gave sophomore Bridget Sloan (Pittsboro, Ind.) her fourth straight Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week honor, the league office announced Tuesday. LSU's Sarie Morrison and Alabama's Kim Jacob shared the SEC Specialist of the Week and LSU's Ashleigh Gnat is the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Sloan's winning total of 39.675 topped the nation's all-around competitors last weekend. Each of her four winning all-around marks this season rank as the nation's top three totals of 2014 (39.75/Jan. 31; 39.70/Jan. 17 & 24; 39.675/Feb. 7).
That all-around total included a 10.0 balance beam mark, joining Kristen Stucky as the only two Gators to earn a perfect mark on the event. It was her second 10.0 of the season, as she turned in the mark for her Jan. 24 floor exercise performance versus Georgia. Sloan is the first Gator to earn a 10.0 in multiple events. She is also the season's first among the nation's four gymnasts who have earned 2014 10.0 marks to post the mark in multiple events.
Sloan also shared Friday's uneven bars title at 9.90 with senior teammate Mackenzie Caquatto. The three event titles upped her season total to team-high 14 event titles (four all-around, three vault, bars, two beam, floor).
Dating back to the 2000 season, Sloan is the first to be named SEC Gymnast of the Week for four consecutive weeks.
Sloan was Week II and IV recipient and shared the Week III honor with teammate Kytra Hunter. Sloan is the defending NCAA all-around champion and also received the 2013 Honda Award as the nation's top collegiate gymnast.
In the fifth national rankings of the season, Sloan is first in all-around (39.540) and vault (9.930), No. T-7 on bars (9.895) and No. 9 on floor (9.915).
Next up, the No. 1 Gators play host to No. 11 Arkansas (3-3, 1-3 SEC) on Friday, Feb. 14. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
