Yeguete Named to SEC Community Service Team
Tuesday, March 11, 2014 | Men's Basketball
Senior forward Will Yeguete has been selected to the 2014 SEC Community Service Team as announced by the league office on Monday. The SEC makes a continuing effort to highlight the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, doing so with their list of 14 men's basketball players this year.
This season marks the 16th year of the conference Community Service Team, as all 21 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004.
Yeguete's recognition comes from his involvement in a variety of community service activities, dedicating a majority of his time to volunteering with Goodwill Gators. Yeguete visits children at UF Health in the intensive care unit, the cancer area and others to brighten their spirits and get to know special individuals who are going through extremely tough times in their lives.
The senior forms meaningful relationships with the children and visits them on a regular basis as he has proved he is very generous with his time. Specifically, Yeguete has developed an unbreakable bond with a young boy named Kaden who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. The two regularly spend time playing together as they hold a special place in each other's hearts.
Yeguete also loves to speak to children at local elementary schools about making the right decisions, staying fit and being involved in and out of the classroom. Yeguete and teammate Patric Young regularly visit the schools and enjoy attending their physical education classes to teach them about basketball.
