Monday, March 31, 2014 | Men's Basketball
Florida senior forward Casey Prather was named to the 10-player John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy's 2013-14 All-American Team. The 10 players were selected by a voting base of nearly 1,000 college basketball experts throughout the nation and by fans through a fan voting site.
All selected players have proven to their universities that they are making progress toward graduation and are maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA, an important component of the Award insisted upon by Coach Wooden. Voters could consider performance during the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Prather, named First-Team All-SEC this season, leads the conference and ranks top-10 nationally in field goal percentage (.603). A key role in the Florida offense, Prather recorded three 27-plus scoring games and put up double digits in the first 18 games he played in his senior campaign to lead the Gators in scoring. The senior forward is the only player from the SEC chosen to the Wooden Award 2013-14 All-American Team.
Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. It is bestowed upon the nation's best player at an institution of higher education who has proven to his or her university that he or she is making progress toward graduation and maintaining a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. Previous winners include such notables as Larry Bird ('79), Michael Jordan ('84), Tim Duncan ('97), Candace Parker ('07 and '08), Kevin Durant ('09) and Maya Moore of Connecticut ('09 and '11). Michigan's Trey Burke won the 2013 Wooden Award presented by Wendy's.
