Tofft Named SEC Player of the Week
Monday, April 21, 2014 | Softball
For leading No. 5/7 Florida to a road sweep of No. 21/22 Texas A&M, senior third baseman Stephanie Tofft (Lincoln, Calif.) was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, announced Monday (April 21) by the conference office.
The SEC award is Tofft's second career conference player of the week selection, following her recognition as the MAC Western Division Player of the Week on March 8, 2011, when she played at Northern Illinois. This is the fourth SEC weekly honor for Florida this season, joining accolades for Lauren Haeger (Peoria, Ariz.) in Week 1 (Pitcher of the Week), Week 2 (Player of the Week) and Week 4 (Player of the Week).
The senior batted .700 (7x10) with six runs scored, one double, three home runs and 10 RBI in UF's three-game sweep of the Aggies. Tofft homered in every game of the series, and recorded her second five-RBI game of the season on Saturday (also: Feb. 15 vs. Ohio State). The third baseman leads the Gators with 51 RBI overall and 19 in SEC play, and is tied with Kirsti Merritt (Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.) for the team lead with six home runs in conference games.
Tofft and Florida will host their final regular-season homestand this week, beginning with a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday (April 23) against in-state rival USF. For the latest news about Gator Softball, follow the team on Twitter and Facebook and stay tuned to GatorZone.com.
