BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Florida junior triple jumper Ciarra Brewer was named the SEC Co-Women's Field Athlete of the Year and 21 other Gators were All-SEC honorees for the 2014 SEC outdoor season, unveiled by the league office Tuesday.
Brewer, the 2014 SEC Champion in the triple jump for the third consecutive year, has the best leap in the nation (13.91m/45-7.75) entering the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville this weekend. The mark, which came her first attempt at SECs last week, also bettered her school record and SEC Meet Record in the event. The Gators swept both triple jump titles at SEC Outdoors, as Marquis Dendy claimed the men's championship, giving the Orange and Blue six of the last seven TJ titles on the women's side and five straight in the men's competition.
Brewer became just the second SEC athlete to win three straight triple jump titles, the other being former Gator great Shara Proctor.
Florida garnered five All-SEC first teamers, all of whom were SEC Champions at the Outdoor Championships in Lexington -- Brewer, Dendy, Cory McGee (1500m), Fawn Miller (javelin) and Stipe Zunic (shot put). Additionally, the Orange and Blue had 16 athletes named to the second team, eight men and women, while first years Nick Uruburu and Becky Greene gave Florida a SEC All-Freshman Team nod on each side.
Florida, whose men are ranked No. 1, women No. 2 in the USTFCCCA Division I National Computer Rankings entering NCAA Prelims in Jacksonville, finished second on the women's side and third in men's action at the 2014 SEC Outdoor Championships May 15-18. The All-SEC First Team consists of the event winner in each event at the SEC Outdoor Championships, while the All-SEC Second Team consists of the second and third-place finishers in each event. The SEC All-Freshman Team is comprised of the top freshman finisher in each event, excluding relays, at the SEC Outdoor Championships
