Three UF Teams Earn NCAA Recognition for Academic Success

Florida's men's basketball, women's basketball and softball teams earned public recognition from the NCAA for APR scores rating in the top 10 nationally within their sport.

The University of Florida men's basketball, women's basketball and softball programs have been publicly recognized by the NCAA for their outstanding academic performance, with Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent nationally within their sport. This marks the third consecutive year the softball team has received the honor and the second straight for women's basketball.

Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate, with the intent to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

Florida's men's and women's basketball teams were the only SEC team in their sport to be honored, while the UF softball team was one of two recognized (Tennessee) in the conference.

This recognition adds to already impressive academic accomplishments by those programs. The men's and women's basketball teams placed a combined 13 players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll this season, including an SEC-record eight on the men's side. The SEC Academic Honor Roll for spring sports has not yet been announced, but last season's list included five Gator softball players.
