Friday, June 20, 2014 | Women's Tennis
Twenty-one years since she last donned orange and blue on the tennis court, Gator great Lisa Raymond continues to shine in her post-collegiate career at this year's Wimbledon. Raymond is competing in the ladies' doubles and mixed doubles events.
Isn't It Grand?
Lisa Raymond has captured a total of 11 Grand Slam titles (at the conclusion of the 2013 season): Women's Doubles Titles - 2001, 2005 & 2011 U.S. Open, 2006 French Open, 2001 Wimbledon, 2000 Australian Open; Mixed Doubles Titles – 2003 French Open, 1996 & 2002 U.S. Open, 1999 & 2012 Wimbledon. She spent the majority of the 2001 and 2002 seasons as the No. 1-ranked doubles player in the world and ended the 2012 calendar year as the No. 6-ranked player.
Age Is Only a Number
When Raymond paired with Liezel Huber to win the 2011 U.S. Open Women's Doubles crown at the age of 38, she surpassed Billie Jean King as the oldest woman ever to win a Grand Slam doubles championship.
Lucky Number 21
Wimbledon 2014 marks Raymond's 21st time participating in the event. She enters competition ranked No. 40 in doubles.
Bad Luck of the Draw
Raymond will be pitted against doubles partner Liezel Huber in the mixed doubles event.
