Seven University of Florida football student-athletes earned recognition for their success in the classroom during the 2013-14 school year as they were named to the Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll, the SEC announced on Friday.
Combined with the 29 upperclassmen who made the SEC Academic Honor Roll, the Gator football team had 36 players recognized for their academic achievements during the last school year. Florida has 55 First-Year Academic Honor Roll selections across all sports in 2013-14.
Following a season in which three Gators earned recognition on the SEC All-Freshman Team and two were named Freshman All-Americans, Caleb Brantley, Jarrad Davis, Vernon Hargreaves III, Antonio Riles, Jordan Sherit, Johnny Townsend and Nick Washington were named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll for the Orange and Blue.
To be selected to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
