The team of Gator men's golfers Ryan Orr and Conor Richardson captured the 65th Florida State Four-Ball Championship held at Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, on July 12-13.
Orr and Richardson posted a tournament total of 17-under par 127 to win their first state title by a stroke. Playing at the New Course on Saturday, the duo made nine birdies and zero bogeys for their round of 63. Still, the pair was two shots back of the lead entering the final round.
Playing the North/South Course on Sunday, Richardson and Orr got off to a hot start with birdies on 1, 2, 5, and 6 to turn at 32. The University of Florida college teammates continued their stellar play on the back nine with birdies on 10, 11, 15 and 16 for their round of 64. This victory has also earned the pair an exemption for the next three years into the Four-Ball Championship.
At UF in 2013-14 from Belleair, Orr was the only freshman and one of two Gators to compete in every tournament. He collected three top-25 finishes, led the team with two eagles and was second in made birdies (75). A redshirt freshman for the Orange and Blue from West Palm Beach, Richardson saw action in three tournaments for the Gators and recorded a career-best 233 at the Valspar Invitational at the Floridian.
