Sunday's match is the second of a six-match road stretch for the Gators, equaling the longest in the program's history (also six straight road matches in 1999 and 2002). During this six-match road swing, the Gators will travel more than 9,000 miles.
Last Meeting Between Florida-OSU:
Last year when Florida and Oklahoma State met for the first time in Gainesville, Havana Solaun scored a goal around 11 minutes played for each half, giving UF a 2-0 win. It was Solaun's third double-goal match of her career (she added another double-goal match at Tennessee later in the season). Pamela Begić and Annie Speese combined for the assist on the first goal and Speese also earned the assist on the second.
Gators' Friday Result:
The Gators opened 2014 road action with a 2-1 loss at Oklahoma on Friday. The Sooners scored early in the match in the sixth minute when Caren Nelson's pass found Tori Bowman in the box. Bowman sent the ball over to Rachel Ressler just above the penalty box where she one-touched it into the far corner. Gators allowed the Sooners a penalty kick in the 63rd minute and Abby Hodgen successfully converted to give the Sooners a 2-0 lead.
A pair of Gator sophomores teamed up to find the net in the 72nd minute. Meggie Dougherty-Howard carved her way through the midfield and sent the ball to Savannah Jordan. Her shot hit the near post and kicked in for Jordan's second goal of the season. The Gators had chances, including a pair of shots by center back Christen Westphal when she got forward in the final three minutes.
Cowgirl Soccer in 2014:
OSU opened 2014 with a 2-0 loss to Oklahoma and also has one-goal losses at Arkansas (2-1) and versus No. 2 Florida State (2-1 2OT). OSU is the first of three consecutive Gator opponents that advanced to 2013 NCAA action. The Cowgirls lost 2-1 to Arkansas in 2013 NCAA First Round play.
Sophomore Courtney Dike led OSU in scoring last season (13 goals, 4 assists, 30 points). Dike rejoined the Cowgirls this weekend after playing for Nigeria in 2014 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in Canada. Nigeria lost 1-0 to Germany in the World Cup Final. Dike scored twice in 2014 World Cup play – both off quick goals. She scored after just 18 seconds versus South Korea and again in 64 seconds versus Korea DPR.
2014 Records:
Florida: 2-1, 0-0 SEC
Oklahoma State: 0-3, 0-0 Big 12
Preseason Conference Votes:
Florida shared the 2013 Southeastern Conference title with Texas A&M as each team posted 9-2 league records. OSU took sixth in the Big 12 Conference with its 2-3-3 league record.
Florida – The Gators are picked to win the Southeastern Conference.
OSU – The Cowgirls are picked to finish third in Big 12 play in 2014. West Virginia is the preseason pick to win the Big 12.
