Last Friday's Gator Results:
In the nation's only match of the weekend featuring a pair of top-10 teams, then No. 8 Florida won 2-1 at then No. 2 Florida State on Sept. 5. The win ended FSU's home unbeaten streak, which stood at 36-0-1 and spanned to the 2011 season.
The first goals of the season for a pair of Gator sophomores gave UF the win and both goals involved Pamela Begič. She scored at 24:12 with an eight-yard shot off the endline pass from Tessa Andjuar, which was touched toward Begič by Savannah Jordan. Then within five minutes of after entering the match, sophomore Betsy Middleton scored at 34:06 on a 20-yard blast set up by the pass from Begič. FSU's Dagny Brynjarsdottir cut the lead to a single goal shortly before halftime. The Gator defense, including stops by center back Claire Falknor and goalkeeper Taylor Burke, helped the Gators claim their first win versus FSU since 2010.
After her goal and an assist last Friday, Begič was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. She also appears on both lists for outlets that release national teams of the week – College Soccer 360 Primetime Performers and TopDrawerSoccer.com.
