Gators Impress in Fall Opener

Seven Gators including all three freshmen won their opening round singles matches at the Duke Fab Four Invitational in Cary, North Carolina, on Friday.
Brooke Austin (Indianapolis, Ind.), Kourtney Keegan (Roswell, Ga.), Josie Kuhlman (Ponte Vedra, Fla.), Brianna Morgan (Beverly Hills, Calif.), Peggy Porter (Dallas, Texas), Stefani Stojic (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) and Belinda Woolcock (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) advanced to the second round of main draw singles in the first event of the season.
The Gator duo of Keegan and Kuhlman defeated Silvia Fuentes and Wendy Zhang of Miami and later topped the team of Marie Faure of Virginia and Rachel Kahan from Duke to claim a spot in the Black Draw Doubles final. Porter and Stojic also competed in the Black Draw, but dropped their quarterfinal match to doubles team Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente of Oklahoma State and finished the day in consolation third place. Woolcock and Spencer Liang (Potomac, Md.) earned their place in the Blue Draw Doubles final after defeating Maci Epstein and Stephanie Nauta of UVA in the quarterfinals and Ester Goldfeld and Samantha Harris from Duke in the semifinals. Austin and Morgan found victory over Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey from San Jose State in the White Draw Doubles quarterfinal, but fell to Natalie Suk and Zalina Khairudinova of Ole Miss in the semifinals. They will face Virginia duo Cassie Mercer and Skylar Morton for third place.
