Both teams bring 2-0 league records into Sunday's meeting. Florida opened home SEC action Friday with a 2-1 win versus No. 22 Georgia. Missouri upset No. 14 South Carolina 1-0 Friday in Columbia, South Carolina.
Two Places to Call Home
During the course of the Gators' seven home-match schedule, the team will play at two venues – James G. Pressly Stadium and Dizney Stadium. Both of Florida's regular-season home matches set for Sundays will be played at Dizney Stadium, including tomorrow's match with Missouri.
Playing at Dizney Stadium during the regular season gives Florida venue options if the Gators are fortunate to be in position to host post-season action. A team needs to play at least two matches at a venue to have that site eligible for post-season play.
Last Meeting:
When Florida and Missouri met in 2013, the Tigers used an early goal from then junior Kaysie Clark to upset the Gators 1-0 in Columbia, Missouri. It was the Tigers first win in the all-time six-game series between the two teams.
In Florida's SEC Home Opener Friday:
The Gators opened SEC home action with a 2-1 win versus No. 22 Georgia Friday. The Gators scored first when senior Lauren Silver served the ball to the top of the six-yard box. Sophomore Brooke Sharp raised her right knee to use her foot to redirect the ball into the goal in the 24th minute. Georgia tied the match just over four minutes later off the goal from Marion Crowder. The only score of the second half gave Florida the win. Junior Claire Falknor won the ball just below the midfield circle on the Florida half. The long ball she launched found Savannah Jordan midway in the Georgia half. UGA goalkeeper Louise Hogrell came out to make the stop but couldn't get a good touch. The two bumped, causing Jordan to stumble, but she bounced up quickly to continue her run, scoring on the empty goal.
Missouri Soccer in 2014:
After opening the 2014 season with a tie (Syracuse, 0-0 2OT) and a loss to preseason No. 12 West Virginia (3-2), the Tigers have rattled off a 7-0-1 record. That record includes a 1-0 win Friday at No. 14 South Carolina off the first goal of the season by sophomore Lauren Selaiden. Senior Taylor Grant leads the Tigers with 12 points this season off of six goals. Kaitlyn Clark is the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week after turning in her first collegiate points with a goal and an assist in MU's 3-1 win at LSU.
2014 Records:
Florida: 7-2, 2-0 SEC
Missouri: 7-1-2, 2-0-0 SEC
Preseason Conference Votes:
Florida shared the 2013 Southeastern Conference title with Texas A&M as each team posted 9-2 league records. Missouri took eighth in the SEC in 2013 with its 4-4-3 record.
Florida – The Gators are picked to win the Southeastern Conference.
Missouri – The Tigers are picked to take ninth in the SEC.
Rankings:
