Men's Golf To Open Season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic
Thursday, September 4, 2014 | Men's Golf
With new head coach JC Deacon at the helm, the Florida men's golf team looks for a fresh start as it tees off the 2014-15 season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic this weekend. The 14-team event in Dalton, Ga., features squads from five different conferences and showcases five nationally-ranked teams, including reigning national champion Alabama.
Deacon is eager to begin his first season leading the Gators. So far, he's been focusing on making sure his golfers are doing the little things right, having good attitudes and appreciating their opportunities.
“We'll be ready to go,” Deacon acknowledged. “I've got some ideas that I'm going to teach these guys about and make sure that we're ready to play. I want to learn about the guys and for them to have some fun and play hard. Whether we're playing well or not, I just want them to finish the rounds and represent the University of Florida in the best way possible.”
“I'm so proud of the guys,” Deacon continued. “They've worked so hard this first week and have had unbelievable attitudes. They've shown up early for everything, they've looked good and they're ready to go. They're treating each out great, so no matter what happens, we're off to a strong start and it's just going to get better from here.”
