OKLAHOMA CITY – University of Florida softball players Lauren Haeger and Kelsey Stewart were named to the Top 50 Watch List for the 2015 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, announced Wednesday by the Amateur Softball Association of America.
A two-way threat, Haeger has earned NFCA All-Southeast Region First Team honors each of her first three years. The 2013 All-American stands tied for third on the Gators' career home run list with 52, and also ranks among the all-time UF leaders in RBI (fourth, 189) and ERA (eighth, 2.01). The Peoria, Ariz., native ranked sixth in the country with a career-best 20 home runs in 2014, and also placed among the Southeastern Conference leaders in opponent's batting average (second, .189) and ERA (fourth, 1.79).
Stewart enjoyed a record-setting campaign in 2014, when she earned First Team All-America honors. The two-time USA Softball Women's national team member led the SEC with a school-record 102 hits as a sophomore, while also leading her team in average (.438), runs scored (68), doubles (T-1st, 14), triples (six), stolen bases (36) and assists (114). The Wichita, Kan., native currently holds the Gator career records for average (.408) and on-base percentage (.470) for players with 200+ at-bats. In addition, Stewart holds the UF single-season records for triples (10, 2013) and steals (36, twice).
Florida opens its season next Friday in Tampa at the USF Softball Classic. The team's full 2015 schedule can be found on GatorZone.com.
