Oklahoma City – After leading the U.S. women's national team to two tournament championships and two runner-up finishes last summer, Gator Great Michelle Moultrie has been named the 2014 USA Softball Female Athlete of the Year. The accolade was announced Friday by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA).
"I praise God for the amazing opportunity to play for USA Softball," Moultrie said in an ASA release. "Representing my country continues to inspire me to grow in who I am as a player and in who I am as a person. It is an honor to be named the 2014 USA Softball Female Player of the Year. Thank you!"
A two-time All-American at Florida, Moultrie appeared in 27 games for Team USA last summer. The Jacksonville native hit .378 with two home runs, 17 RBI and 20 runs scored as the Eagles won gold at the World Cup of Softball IX and Italian Softball Week, while earning silver medals at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International and the ISF World Championship.
Moultrie joined the Red, White and Blue in 2011 and earned her fifth consecutive Team USA invitation earlier this month. The squad, which also includes Gator junior Kelsey Stewart, will participate in the World Cup of Softball X in Southern California and the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.
