University of Florida junior infielder Kelsey Stewart and Gator Great Michelle Moultrie will play for the USA Softball Women's National Team during its 2015 campaign, the Amateur Softball Association of America announced on Thursday. Moultrie received her fifth consecutive selection to Team USA, while Stewart was named to the team for the second straight year after playing with the Junior Women's National Team in 2013.
A two-time All-American at Florida, Moultrie holds the program's career record for stolen bases (83) and the single-season marks for hitting (.443, 2011) and on-base percentage (.519, 2011). The Jacksonville, Fla., native is one of two Gators to be named Most Outstanding Player of the Women's College World Series (WCWS), an award she earned in 2011. Moultrie closed her career with a Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Year accolade in 2012, marking the latest of the Gators' six SEC Player or Pitcher of the Year honors.
Recognized as a First Team All-American in 2014, Stewart currently ranks first in Gator annals for career batting average (.408) and on-base percentage (.470) for players with at least 200 at-bats. The Wichita, Kan., native also holds the Florida single-season records for hits (102, 2014), triples (10, 2013) and stolen bases (36, twice). Stewart was named to the WCWS All-Tournament Team last season, when Florida captured its first national championship.
Team USA will compete at the World Cup of Softball X in Southern California and the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada. Both events are scheduled for July.
Earlier this week, Gator freshman Nicole DeWitt and 2014 Florida signee Kelly Barnhill were named to the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team. UF Head Coach Tim Walton will serve as an assistant coach for that squad.
