GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two members of the University of Florida football team were selected to the John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List, as announced by the John Mackey Award Selection Committee on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore DeAndre Goolsby and redshirt senior Jake McGee are in the race for the award that distinguishes the most outstanding tight end in college football. The Gator duo are two of the five SEC tight ends with 130+ receiving yards and a touchdown this season.
McGee currently ranks second on the team with 18 receptions and fifth on the team in receiving yards (157) as well as scoring one touchdown for the Gators. 11 of the Richmond, Va.-product's 18 receptions this years have gone for a first down or touchdown.
Goolsby is one of four SEC tight ends since 2013 (and only the fourth Gator tight end since 1996) to finish a game with 90+ yards and a receiving touchdown, doing so against East Carolina. He's also one of 14 FBS tight ends to have such a game. The Gator sophomore has already compiled 12 receptions for 187 yards and one touchdown during the 2015 campaign.
John Mackey Award semifinalists will be announced on November 16th and the finalists will be announced on November 24th. The announcement of the 2015 John Mackey Award recipient will take place on December 9th and then presented live on December 10th at the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
