Gator Men’s Golf Continues Fall Season at Jerry Pate National
Friday, October 2, 2015 | Men's Golf
The 23rd-ranked University of Florida men's golf team travels to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend to compete in the Jerry Pate National. Held at the Old Overton Club and hosted by Alabama, the 12-team event will be held on Monday and Tuesday.
This will be the Gators' 12th appearance at the Jerry Pate National and the first for the squad since 2012. Florida has never won the tournament but has finished as the runner-up four times.
The Orange and Blue is coming off of a tie for seventh place and a win over Georgia Tech in match play at the DICK'S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup last week.
After earning UF's top finish at the Challenge Cup event, junior Ryan Orr will lead the Florida lineup. Freshman Sam Horsfield will play in the No. 2 spot, followed by sophomore Alejandro Tosti and freshmen Jorge Garcia and Kyler Tate.
Head Coach JC Deacon
On the Jerry Pate National:
“My expectation for this week's Jerry Pate is that we go in there and have the best attitudes and the best self-talk of any team in the tournament. We need to be the best at that, and, if we do that, the results are going to take care of themselves.”
On the course at the Old Overton Club:
“I actually played there as a player, back when I was at UNLV. I think I played in the tournament three different times and I'm very familiar with the course. It's very similar to the two courses we've already played this year – fast greens, with a great, great layout – so it's a perfect course for our team. We have to get out there and play with a straight mind and go and do our thing.”
