TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The University of Florida's two reigning national championship teams were celebrated by Governor Rick Scott Monday at the Florida Governor's Mansion.
The Gator teams accepted an invitation from Governor Rick Scott to visit the state capital. When the teams arrived at the mansion, Governor Scott greeted each member of Florida's 2015 NCAA softball and gymnastics championship teams and staff, giving each a Governor's Sports Award medal. Even Alberta received a medal from the governor.
Florida's two 2015 Honda Award winners, Kytra Hunter and Lauren Haeger, thanked Governor Scott and First Lady Ann Scott for opening up their home to celebrate their team's 2015 wins. Governor Scott received a softball jersey and a gymnastics jacket from Haeger and Hunter.
The teams were then invited to enjoy lunch and tour the historic Florida Governor's Mansion. During lunch, the teams visited with Governor Scott and the First Lady along with University of Florida President Dr. Kent Fuchs, who was in Tallahassee for the event.
How did they earn the trip to Tallahassee?
The Florida softball team beat Michigan in a three game series to win their second-straight national championship title.
Gator gymnastics used the slimmest winning margin in the NCAA Championships' 34-year history to capture their third consecutive national crown.
