GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Two members from the University of Florida swimming and diving teams -- sophomore Jan Switkowski and freshman Hannah Burns -- have gathered Southeastern Conference weekly honors following standout performances against South Carolina on Nov. 6, inside the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
Switkowski, a Lublin, Poland, native, was named the SEC's Male Swimmer of the Week and gathers the accolade for the first time as a Gator. Switkowski had an impressive meet against the Gamecocks last week, swimming to first-place times in all four of his races and posting two of the country's top national times. The 2014 NCAA qualifier got things started in the 200 medley relay (1:27.46), and later posted the nation's top time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:34.81). Switkowski went back-to-back in rewriting the national top-times charts after touching out at the 1:45.07 mark in the 200-yard IM.
Burns was also honored by the SEC, gathering the conferences Female Freshman of the Week honor. It is the first recognition of Burns' career. Last week against the Gamecocks, Burns swam to a pair of wins and a runner-up finish to help lead Florida over South Carolina for its second SEC win on the 2015-16 slate. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:04.23 and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:55.96. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Burns placed second with a time of 10:04.63.
