GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Nine members from the University of Florida men's and women's swimming and diving teams have combined to lead the Southeastern Conference across 14 swimming and diving events. In addition, the Gators are ranked number one with the country's fastest national times across five events.
The Orange and Blue are coming off a pair of wins over South Carolina on Nov. 6, inside the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida. The UF men extended their win streak against the Gamecocks to eight meets with a 178-115 decision while the women notched a 165.5-126.5 victory to remain a perfect 19-0 in the all-time series between the two schools.
Following the weekend slate, two Florida swimmers -- sophomore Jan Switkowski and freshman Hannah Burns -- gathered SEC weekly honors for standout performances against the Gamecocks. Switkowski was named the Male Swimmer of the Week while Burns was named the Female Freshman of the Week.
With the recent dual wins, the men's and women's teams have climbed in the national rankings. In the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, the Florida men rank third nationally while the UF women come in at No. 11. In the College Swimming polls, the men rank fifth nationally while the women sit at No. 19.
Looking ahead, both squads will travel to Columbus, Ohio, from November 20-22, for a three-day competition at Ohio State. The Gators will swim a mix of long course (50-meter pool) and short course yards (25-yard pool) throughout the weekend.
