GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida is proud to recognize various active and former military members, veterans and local first responders as part of its fifth annual Saluting Those Who Serve event, presented by Wells Fargo, during its home football game against Florida Atlantic on Saturday, November 21.
Honoring and thanking the men and women who have served our country is important to the University Athletic Association, which is why the ROTC Color Guard takes part in our pre-game ceremonies and Wounded Warriors are recognized at every home football contest.
The 2015 season also featured a pair of special presentations in recognition of those who serve.
Fans had the chance to participate in a surprise homecoming for Officer Kristian Denkins on Oct. 3, in addition to witnessing a fly over prior to this past Saturday's (Nov. 7) homecoming football game.
Events these service members will take part in include: a special pre-game flag presentation, ROTC Branches and First Responders welcoming the team during Gator Walk, and saluting all active and former military personnel and veterans in attendance.
“Our staff, students and alumni take great pride in honoring and supporting various military members, veterans and local responders every chance we have,” says Athletics Director Jeremy Foley. “This event gives us an opportunity to show them how thankful we are for everything they do. This is a chance for us to celebrate and pay tribute to the men and women who embody the definition of heroes by putting themselves first to protect and serve this great country.”
