GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The coaching carousel spins fast this time of year, the portion of the season between the end of the regular season and start of the bowl season.
While the names of Florida assistant coaches Geoff Collins and Randy Shannon surfaced in UCF's hunt for a new head coach, the Knights hired Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost.
Meanwhile, on Monday former Gators head coach Will Muschamp was introduced as head coach at South Carolina, where he has tabbed a pair of former UF assistants Travaris Robinson and Kurt Roper as coordinators.
This time last year Florida head coach Jim McElwain was in his first week on the job. His first hire was Collins, who left Mississippi State to join McElwain in Gainesville.
McElwain retained offensive line coach Mike Summers from Muschamp's staff but went outside the program to hire the rest of his staff.
Following a 10-3 season and surprise run to the SEC Championship Game, McElwain and assistants are busy recruiting this week.
He is hopeful his inaugural staff remains intact for Year 2.
"We've got a great staff and I know a lot of guys would be in high demand because they are great coaches,'' McElwain said. "We've been able to put together an outstanding staff here. I hope all of them are back."
