GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida head coach Jim McElwain clarified the status Wednesday of junior receiver Demarcus Robinson, who leads the Gators with 47 receptions.
Robinson, who did not play in the regular-season finale against Florida State due to a poor choice according to McElwain, has been reinstated to the team by his senior teammates.
McElwain said following Saturday's loss that the seniors would have a vote whether to allow Robinson, who has faced multiple suspensions in his time at UF, to return to the team for Saturday's SEC Championship Game against Alabama.
"The seniors got together and have given him an opportunity," McElwain said. "He talked to the team. It was a choice, like I said, for him not to be with his family and us in the last ball game. Sometimes the greatest lessons in life are when things are taken away from you and you're no longer enabled. As I've said before, he has come a long way. But he still has a long way to go to understand it's not OK to make choices that hurt your team."
