GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Junior Delaney Dye (Tallahassee, Fla.) and senior Colin Hamilton (Jacksonville, Fla.) have been named to the 2015 SEC Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Community Service Teams announced by the league on Thursday. This is the second year in a row for Hamilton and Dye's first honor of her career.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
A 2013-14 Honorable Mention Scholar-Athlete All-American and two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, Dye has been a well-rounded student-athlete for the Gators during her three years. Her leadership has helped the women's team on the boards and she has also made time to help the local community.
Dye has been involved with the Caleb's Pitch visit, which allows Florida student-athletes to interact with pediatric patient at UF Health. During the event, the volunteers filled syringes with paint and allowed the patients to “splatter” the paint on canvases. She also volunteered with the Gator Tracks program, which delivered shoes and socks to 425 local students in need.
Hamilton, a two-time SEC Community Service Team member, has been a consistent leader in and out of the pool for the Gators. He has been very busy in the community with several organizations, as Hamilton has led a stadium tour for local kindergarteners, helped encourage and direct participants at a local youth wheelchair basketball tournament and also participated in Gator Tracks.
In 2014, Hamilton competed in the five-Points of Life Marathon and Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, was a part of the Gator Move and New SA Orientation and made visits to the JJ Finley Kindergarten and UF Health Hospital. In addition, he was a member of the 2014 Academic Honor Roll. In January 2015, Hamilton was named the Marine Student-Athlete of the Month.
The Gator men and women are just a few days away from heading to Auburn, Ala., for the SEC Championships, which begin on February 17th and conclude on the 21st. UF's men's team is looking for its third-straight SEC Championship and 36th in program history, while the Gator women are looking to win their 18th conference title and the program's first since 2009.
