GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida lacrosse team (1-1) will host Michigan (0-0) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
This will be the second-ever meeting between the two schools. The Gators defeated the Wolverines, 20-4, last year in Gainesville.
Familiar Face
Former UF assistant coach Jennifer Ulehla returns to Gainesville as the head coach of Michigan. Ulehla came to Florida in 2008 with Amanda O'Leary to help start the Gator lacrosse program. She left Florida in 2010 to start Michigan's program and begins her second year as the head coach of the Wolverines.
Bounce Back
Florida rebounded from its season-opening loss to No. 2 UNC with a 17-8 road win over Jacksonville. In the victory, senior Shannon Gilroy scored five goals and moved into second place on UF's all-time scoring list. Sammi Burgess and Mollie Stevens each scored three goals and Devon Schneider added a goal and two assists. All active members of the roster saw playing time and six freshmen made their collegiate debuts for the Orange & Blue.
Rewriting the Record Books
Senior Shannon Gilroy already holds 19 program records, and on Wednesday against Jacksonville she moved a step closer to claiming No. 20. Gilroy passed Ashley Burns on all-time scoring list and moved into second place with 191 career goals behind Kitty Cullen with 203.
Sellout Crowd
Last Saturday's crowd of 1,256 was the third-highest total in the history of Florida lacrosse and the highest regular-season attendance since the first-ever Florida home lacrosse game on Feb. 20, 2010 when 2,114 fans came to Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
