GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida men's swimming and diving team is No. 4 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America rankings, CSCAA officials announced on Monday.
Head Coach Gregg Troy's Gators won the program's third-straight and 36th overall Southeastern Conference Championship last week behind three SEC titles at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center in Auburn, Ala.
The Gators finished in front of second place Georgia (1,134.5) and third place Auburn (1,084) with a total score of 1,314.5 points. Florida was strong in all events, capturing individual victories in the 100-yard butterfly (Caeleb Dressel) and the 500-yard freestyle (Mitch D'Arrigo) and earned a relay gold in the 800-yard freestyle event (Wallace, Werner, Alexiou, D'Arrigo). The Gators pulled away on the last day of competition after entering the final day up only 132 points.
Elsewhere in the rankings, Texas, California, Georgia, Florida and Michigan round out the top 5.
Next up, Florida hosts a Last Chance Meet in the O'Dome from Feb. 28-Mar. 1. This will be the final time for any Gators to set qualifying times for the NCAA meet. The women's meet will be held from Mar. 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C. and the men's championships will be held a week later in Iowa City, Iowa (Mar. 26-28).
UF's divers will look to qualify for the NCAA meet in Athens, Ga. from Mar. 9-11 at the NCAA Zone B Diving regional meet.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is a professional organization of coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of collegiate swimming and diving. The CSCAA Division I Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing teams in rank order at the time of each poll. The poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. Rankings are based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and include invites as well as dual meets.
