
Gator Alex McMurtry is SEC Freshman Gymnast of the Week

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A nearly perfect vault score by Florida's Alex McMurtry helped earn her the latest Southeastern Conference Freshman Gymnast of the Week honor, the league office announced Tuesday. It is her first SEC Freshman of the Week honor and the second honor of 2015, as she was the week II SEC Specialist of the Week.

Five different Gator have been honored by the league this season. Bridget Sloan was Week I SEC Specialist of the Week after she opened the 2015 season with a 10.0 vault mark at Ball State. McMurtry was Week II SEC Specialist of the Week after she also posted a 10.0 vault mark. Kytra Hunter was Week IV and Week VI Gymnast of the Week and Kennedy Baker claimed the Week II, IV and VI SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Ericha Fassbender was Week V SEC Freshman of the Week.

McMurtry's Performance at LSU:
The freshman equaled the high mark of the meet with her score of 9.975 to win the Florida at LSU dual vault competition. The mark (the nation's high among vault competitors last weekend) gave McMurtry her third consecutive vault win and the fourth of the season.
Five of her seven vault performances of the 2015 have scored a 9.95 or above.
She also turned in marks of 9.875 on bars and 9.85 on beam. Eighteen of her 19 competitive performances this season have earned a 9.825 or above.
In the latest GymInfo National Rankings released yesterday, McMurtry holds the No. 2 spot in vault with her regional qualifying score of 9.940. She also shares the No. 13 position on uneven bars with an RQS of 9.875.
McMurtry and California's Toni-Ann Williams are the nation's only two freshmen to appear among the top five in any event in the current GymInfo rankings.
Next up for the Gators:
This Friday, the No. 3 Gators play host to No. 25 Kentucky for the popular Gators Link to Pink meet. The Gators Link to Pink meet is part of a Southeastern Conference initiative to help raise breast cancer awareness. Meet time is set for 6:45 p.m. and the first 2,000 fans receive a pink Gators Link to Pink t-shirt, compliments of Allied Insurance.
Tickets for Friday's meet are $5 for adults, while children 17 and under and UF students showing a Gator1 card are admitted free. Chick-fil-a is providing buy-one, get-one free admission for fans - just mention the promo code COW when purchasing tickets online or in person.
The Florida-UK dual airs live on the SEC Network (Gainesville/Ocala channel 68 or 1068 on Cox Cable).
The Florida-UK dual will stream live beginning at 7 p.m. ET on SEC Network+, which can be viewed by all SEC Network subscribers. The meet also will air tape-delayed on SEC Network on Feb. 28 at 8 a.m.
