NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Florida junior quartermiler Najee Glass is this week's USTFCCCA Division I Men's National Athlete of the Week following a world-leading performance in the 400m Saturday at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville.
A Woodbridge, N.J. native, Glass cruised to a personal-best 45.34 in the 400m for a first-place finish in the event against a decorated field at the Randal Tyson Track Center Jan. 31. Glass never trailed his competitors in his season debut in the event and crossed with the fastest mark in the NCAA and world so far this year to put him within .01 of the all-time collegiate top-10 performers list, and at No. 7 on the list of American collegians.
Glass debuted 2015 season with a 45.27 leadoff leg in the Gators' 4x400-meter relay Jan. 24 at the Rod McCravy Memorial towards what is now the No. 2 4x4 mark in the world this year at 3:04.22.
An eight-time All-American, Glass' 45.34 race moved him up in the Gator record books to No. 4 on the University of Florida's top-10 list in the 400m. Glass has been a mainstay on Florida's 4x4 since stepping on campus, helping lead the 2013 squad to an outdoor national title in the event, in turn contributing to UF's 2013 team outdoor national championship.
Glass was additionally on UF's 2014 Florida Relays 4x4 that clocked a school-record 2:59.73, the third-fastest mark in collegiate history.
