Throwers Bostic, Cameron & Strawn Open Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet for No. 1/2 Gators
Saturday, February 7, 2015 | Track and Field
BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Senior thrower Kyle Strawn opened up the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet with a PR in the weight throw, while freshman Lloydricia Cameron followed in suit with a PR in the women's weight throw to kick off competition at Rector Field House for the No. 1/2 Florida track and field team Friday in Blacksburg.
Strawn (20.05m/65-9.5) and senior Jayla Bostic (20.10m/65-11.5) both finished fifth in finals of the men's and women's weight throw, respectively, while Cameron finished 13th (17.34m/56-10.75) to improve upon her debut mark from the Rod McCravy Jan. 23.
With his personal-best indoor weight throw performance Friday, Strawn improved upon his No. 4 place on UF's all-time top-10 list in the event.
The Gators have five athletes representing the Orange and Blue this weekend in Blacksburg, as Bostic, Cameron and Becky Greene are representing the No. 1 women's squad, while Strawn and Stipe Zunic are holding it down for the No. 2 men.
Gator fans can follow Cameron (shot put), Green (3k) and Zunic (shot put) in action in Blacksburg Saturday via LIVE Results.
Following the Virginia Tech Elite Meet, Florida has just one more weekend of competition Feb. 13-14 before prepping for SEC Indoors, slated for Feb. 27-28 at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky. NCAA Indoors will take place March 13-14 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
LISTENING TO LEMKE
Gators' associate head coach Steve Lemke:
“It was a really good night for both Kyle (Strawn) and Lloydricia (Cameron) -- both with PRs. Every legal throw that Kyle had tonight was over his previous personal best. He is progressing well and will get better at SECs. Lloydricia had her second personal-best performance in a row; she is making good progress as well. Jayla (Bostic) had a frustrating night, but we are working on some new things and she knows what she has to do to get better. She is very experienced and will be just fine with both the Tyson Invitational and SECs still to come.”
