GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida looks to remain perfect in Southeastern Conference action, as the No. 2 Gators host the No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels on Friday, March 20 at 5 p.m. at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
Florida leads the series with Ole Miss, 41-3, including an 18-0 record in Gainesville.
UF is riding an eight-match winning streak and has earned its last four victories in dominant fashion, defeating its previous four foes by a combined 23-0. Freshman Peggy Porter has clinched the last two matches for Florida and has recorded a singles point in four of her last five outings. The Gators' doubles effort has been outstanding, as Florida has not dropped the early point since Feb. 27.
Thornqvist's Thoughts – Head Coach Roland Thornqvist
On the growth of the team…
It's really interesting watching this team how we've sort of evolved these three months that we've been going in the spring. When we first started in January, I thought our doubles play was really good and it was ahead of our singles play. And then there was a period in the middle, maybe a couple of weeks ago where we really started to do better in singles and our doubles sort of fell behind a little bit. Now it almost seems like we're starting to play better at both singles and doubles at the same time and that really bodes well because we have a very, very difficult stretch coming up. In our singles play, we continue to be physically really strong. I can't remember the last time we actually lost an individual singles match. It must've been Stanford. That was almost a month ago. I like now what it takes for our opponent to even just win a set when they play against us.
