
Gilroy Picks up Fifth BIG EAST Weekly Award, Named Midfielder of the Week

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Florida senior Shannon Gilroy earned her fourth-consecutive BIG EAST Conference weekly accolade and fifth this season after being named the conference's Midfielder of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Gilroy, a Tewaaraton Award Watch List member, totaled 15 points, nine goals, six assists, 13 draw controls, six ground balls and six caused turnovers in two games last week.
In Florida's BIG EAST opener against Vanderbilt on Sunday (March 22), the senior had a career day, scoring a career-high nine points on a season-best seven goals and two assists. In addition, the Northport, New York, native tied a single-game UF record by causing five turnovers. To cap off her stat-packed day against the Commodores, Gilroy tallied a season-high eight draw controls and a career high five ground balls.
Against Stony Brook last Tuesday (March 17), the midfielder netted two goals and dished out four assists, finishing with six points.
Currently, Gilroy is tied for the NCAA lead with 39 goals and ranks second with 52 points.
No. 8 Florida (7-4) returns to action on Saturday (March 28) when it travels to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to take on Temple (8-1) in a BIG EAST contest at 1 p.m.
