Saturday, April 11, 2015 | Women's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 6 Florida Gators conclude the regular season and compete for the Southeastern Conference Regular Season title on Sunday, April 12 at 10 a.m. when they host No. 66 Tennessee at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
Florida leads the all-time series with Tennessee, 41-0.
The Gators were guaranteed a share of the SEC regular-season title with Friday's 4-3 upset victory over No. 5 Georgia. With both the Bulldogs and the Vanderbilt Commodores sitting at 10-2 in the SEC, a Florida win on Sunday would improve UF's conference record to 12-1 and earn them the title outright. If the Gators lose, and Georgia and/or Vanderbilt win, the teams that conclude the season with an 11-2 record will share the regular-season crown.
The most recent installment of the Florida/Georgia rivalry came down to the wire Friday night, as Florida clinched the doubles point and surged ahead in singles, yet the Bulldogs swept the bottom of the singles line-up and tied the match at three-all. Junior No. 21 Brianna Morgan took the first set from No. 91 Silvia Garcia, 6-2, but Garcia forced a third with a 6-1 win in the second. The last match standing, Morgan clinched her third-straight and team-leading eighth match for the Gators when she took the third set, 6-2.
