BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Brooke Austin of the No. 6 University of Florida women's tennis team was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday, April 13 by the conference office.
Austin went undefeated on the weekend in both singles and doubles, picking up her seventh and eighth wins over ranked singles opponents along the way. In Florida's 4-3 upset victory over No. 5 Georgia, Austin dealt UGA's No. 8 Lauren Herring just her second SEC singles loss of the season.
The rookie from Indianapolis, Ind., has posted a singles point for UF in six of the Gators' last seven wins. Austin is tied with junior Brianna Morgan for a team-leading 10 SEC singles wins on the season. She boasts the best overall dual singles record on the team, 15-3, at the No. 1 singles position, a spot in the line-up that has not been upheld by a Florida freshman since Gator Great Lauren Embree.
The Gators begin their quest for postseason success on Friday, April 17 in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 SEC Tournament in Columbia, S.C.
