NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Shannon Gilroy was named one of the final 25 nominees for the 2015 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday.
Gilroy, a 2014 Tewaaraton Finalist, leads the nation in points (80) and ranks second in goals (59), and led the Gators to the 2015 BIG EAST regular-season championship.
The senior midfielder's 241 career goals leads all active NCAA Division I women's student-athletes and ranks 13th all-time. Earlier this season, Gilroy became the Gators' all-time leading goal scorer and point scorer. Her 302 career points also leads all active players.
On May 7, the 25 nominees will be narrowed down to five men's and five women's finalists and will be invited to the award ceremony. The Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on May 28, 2015, at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
Gilroy and the Gators return to action on Thursday, April 30, at the BIG EAST Tournament in Storrs, Connecticut. They will play either Villanova or Vanderbilt depending on the outcome of Saturday's games.
