GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior midfielder Shannon Gilroy and sophomore defender Caroline Fitzgerald have been named to the 2015 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-South Region First Team. In addition, sophomore defender Taylor Bresnahan and sophomore attack Mollie Stevens were tabbed to the second team.
Gilroy added to her already impressive resume and has now been named to the All-South First Team three-straight years. The 2015 Tewaaraton finalist ended her collegiate career with another fine season, leading the nation in points (98) and ranking second in goals (74).
The senior ended her career tied for eighth in NCAA history with 256 career goals. Additionally, Gilroy set career highs in assists (24) and ground balls (31) in 2015.
Fitzgerald established herself as one of the nation's premier shutdown defenders in 2015. The sophomore ranked second on the Gators with 32 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers.
Her 32 ground balls were the most-ever recorded by a UF sophomore. Additionally, she even scored her first-two career goals in 2015, both coming against Marquette. This is the defender's second All-South Region award after being named Second Team last year.
Bresnahan helped contribute to UF's defense that allowed just 8.0 goals per game and 5.1 goals per game in conference play.
The sophomore, who has started every game of her career, set a career high with 20 draw controls this season, while ranking tied for fourth on the team with 15 caused turnovers. Bresnahan is a repeat All-South Second Team pick.
Stevens enjoyed a banner sophomore campaign as the Gators' top-scoring threat behind Gilroy. She finished with career-highs in goals (43), assists (9) and points (52).
The attacker was one of the nation's most consistent scorers in 2015 and rides a UF record 25-game scoring streak into the 2016 season.
All four Gators are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday, May 18.
