GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida senior third baseman Josh Tobias was named to the 2015 SEC Baseball Community Service Team announced on Tuesday. It marked the second consecutive year that he has earned the honor. The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight a student-athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.
Tobias has volunteered with Climb for Cancer, an event in which Gator student-athletes play games and participate with cancer-stricken kids and their siblings in a variety of sports on campus. He volunteers at Littlewood Elementary School Carnival and helped with the Annual Gator Tracks shoe drive. Tobias is a University of Florida Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member and a Florida Letterman Award Committee Member and Presenter. He has visited children in the pediatric care unit at Shands Hospital.
One of the 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, having notable achievements in four areas of excellence: Classroom, Character, Community and Competition. Tobias was one of the three student-athletes chosen to represent the Southeastern Conference at the NCAA Convention on proposed governance rule changes under the NCAA's recently adopted Division I autonomy process.
