GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators have added another prime game to their 2015-16 home slate, with West Virginia scheduled to come to Gainesville on Jan. 30 as part of the third annual SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
For the first time in the three-year history of the event, the conferences have moved the SEC/Big 12 Challenge to one Saturday in January to give it a national platform in the midst of league play. Florida is 1-1 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, both vs. Kansas, winning in Gainesville in 2013-14 and dropping the rematch in Lawrence in 2014-15. UF holds a 4-3 mark all-time vs. West Virginia, with the most recent meeting being a 70-57 Florida win in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla., on Dec. 20, 2003.
In his four seasons at Louisiana Tech, head coach Michael White posted a 1-1 mark vs. Big 12 opponents with a win at Oklahoma and a loss vs. Oklahoma State.Giving this season's meeting with the Mountaineers a twist, new UF assistant coach Darris Nichols was a four-year letterwinner in Morgantown, scoring 993 points and helping WVU to an Elite Eight and two Sweet 16s in the NCAA Tournament during his playing career.
West Virginia posted a 25-10 record (11-7 Big 12) last season, reaching the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 as a 5-seed.
Time and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
