
KeAndre Bates & Devin McDermott Represent Florida on SEC Track & Field Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Florida freshman jumper KeAndre Bates and redshirt sophomore distance runner Devin McDermott represent the Orange and Blue on the 2015 SEC Track and Field Community Service Team, announced by the league Thursday afternoon following the 2015 SEC Outdoor Championships last weekend in Starkville.
Bates and McDermott are both coming off a successful outdoor conference championships, where the men claimed the program's fifth SEC Outdoor crown, its first since 2010, to sweep both the indoor and outdoor league championships. Bates, a two-time All-American indoors and the 2015 SEC Indoor Men's Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, and McDermott, a third-year Telecommunications major, have wasted no time embracing the University of Florida and Gainesville communities through service.
Both Gator student-athletes have led the No. 1 men and No. 7 women, respectively, thus far this season in community service hours en route to well-deserved Community Service Team accolades from the conference.
The league presents a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight a male and female athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community through superior service efforts.

As just a freshman, SEC Indoor Freshman Field Athlete of the Year and two-time All-American jumper KeAndre Bates has wasted no time embracing the Gainesville community… He turned in the most community service hours from the University of Florida men's track and field team… Participated in the Gators' Climb for Cancer, a field-day type event for children in the community with cancer, while he also participated in UF's Goodwill Gators Gator Tracks program… UF student-athletes wrap and distribute donated tennis shoes to needy children in the Gainesville area around the holidays.

Has led the Orange and Blue on the women's side so far this season in community service hours, choosing to spend all of her time in the Gainesville and University of Florida communities at Williams Elementary reading to young children, while also splitting time at UF Health/Shands visiting sick children in the pediatric unit… Has averaged an our every other week this season giving back to the Gainesville community, balancing that with track practice and various internships for her Telecommunications major, including covering Florida athletics with ESPN 850 WRUF on campus… Has made 15 trips to Williams Elementary and the Shands Pediatric Unit.
