Gators Reach NCAA Singles and Doubles Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas – The wins keep rolling in for the Florida Gators in NCAA Singles and Doubles action. Freshman Josie Kuhlman advanced to the NCAA Singles Quarterfinals and freshman Brooke Austin and sophomore Kourtney Keegan reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Doubles Championship with wins on Friday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center of Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Kuhlman came up with a huge Round of 16 win over No. 4-ranked Maegan Manasse (4) of California, 6-4, 6-1.

“[Maegan Manasse] is a great player,” Kuhlman said after the match. “I've played her before and she beat me pretty bad. Coming out today, I was looking to get her back. I thought that I played a really good match. I was staying aggressive and hitting my shots. I was able to pull off the win. At this point in the tournament, every match is a new match. You have to come into each day starting over. I've won some great matches, but it means nothing going into the next round. I just have to take care of business there.”

Since Florida's quarterfinal loss to eventual NCAA Champion Vanderbilt in the Team Championship, Kuhlman has not dropped a set in her journey towards a NCAA Singles title. The Florida rookie will face in-state opponent No. 37 Sinead Lohan of Miami in the quarterfinals.

Austin and Keegan remain in the hunt for a NCAA Doubles title after downing Georgia pairing No. 11 Lauren Herring and Ellen Perez, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, in the Round of 16. Florida's top duo is slated to take on the No. 2-seeded pairing of the event, No. 2 Taylor Davidson and Carol Zhao of Stanford.
