
Alex Murphy to Represent Finland in World University Games

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Gators senior Alex Murphy will compete for Finland in the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, July 3-14. Murphy's mother, Paivi, is from Finland and competed for the Finnish women's national team during her playing days.
Murphy averaged 5.1 points and shot .457 from the field in 23 games with four starts at Florida last season, his first with Florida after transferring from Duke. He returns to the Finnish national team, where he previously played in the 2012 FIBA U20 European Division B Championships, where he averaged 17.4 points and 6.6 rebounds, including a 30-point output vs. Poland.
The Murphy family has a history of competing for Finland. In addition to Paivi, Murphy's brother, Gator alum Erik, competed for Finland in the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
Murphy is one of 12 current, future or former Gator to compete internationally in the past five years.
