
Gators Finish With Nine Players Taken In the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators had three players chosen on the third and final day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday. Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan's squad totaled nine selections through the 40-round event. The Gators have now had 61 picks in his eight-year tenure (three in 2008, 10 in 2009, six in 2010, 11 in 2011, nine in 2012, seven in 2013, six in 2014).
Senior Bobby Poyner was chosen by the Boston Red Sox in the 14th round at No. 411. In 24 appearances and one start, the left-hander is 5-2 with a 2.73 ERA this season and has collected four saves. The Wellington, Fla., native has registered 56 strikeouts and issued six walks in 59.1 innings, while holding opponents to a .230 batting average. Poyner twirled five shutout innings last Saturday to help the Orange and Blue punch the program's ninth ticket to Omaha by taking both games of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional from Florida State.
Redshirt sophomore Mike Vinson was picked by the Detroit Tigers in the 24th round at No. 730. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in seven appearances. Junior Aaron Rhodes went to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 28th round at No. 855. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA in 16 appearances for the Gators this spring, with 31 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. He has held opponents to a .189 batting average.
