Dukes, Jefferson Shine as UF Competitors Enjoy Successful Day Three at USA Outdoors

EUGENE, Ore. – Strong performances by Gator field athletes headlined the first two days of the 2015 USA Outdoor Championships at Historic Hayward Field, but sprinters Dedric Dukes and Kyra Jefferson nabbed the spotlight Saturday evening, with both winning their respective heats and posting the third-fastest overall times in the 200 meter preliminaries.
Dukes advanced to the semifinals in thrilling fashion, crossing in 20.16 seconds and shortly thereafter, Jefferson, a rising redshirt junior, topped her heat of prelims with a time of 22.53 seconds, allowing her to secure an automatic entry into the semifinals.
In the USA Juniors triple jump finals, freshman Darrielle McQueen finished fourth on the women's side at 12.72m/41-8.75ft. For the men, freshman KeAndre Bates, who won the junior long jump on Friday, came in at 15.07m/49-5.5ft. to grab fifth place.
Rising senior Bridgette Owens ran the 100-meter hurdles in 12.77 seconds, the ninth-fastest time in the semifinals, to take sixth in her heat. Only one current collegian qualified on to the finals.
The junior women's 1,500-meter final saw freshman Lauren Perry (4:36.71) nab 12th place, while AJ McFarland notched an eighth-place finish in the junior men's hammer throw with a top toss of 62.53 meters (205-2 feet).
